A Workout Journal for Women Who Train Along at Home

If you train at home to follow along videos, this is the at home workout journal I made for you.

If most of your workouts start by pressing play on YouTube, you have probably noticed something. Traditional workout journals do not really work for the way we train.

They are usually built around exercises, sets, reps and weight. Perfect if you are following a written strength program in the gym.

But what if you just did a 35-minute follow-along workout with 25 different exercises, three sets of dumbbells, timed intervals and a couple of modifications?

You are hardly going to sit there afterwards trying to remember how many lateral raises you squeezed into 40 seconds. πŸ˜‚

And honestly, that is probably not the information you will want six weeks from now anyway.

What you will want to remember is:

  • What weights did I use?
  • Which exercises challenged me?
  • Was anything uncomfortable?
  • Could I go heavier next time?
  • Did I actually like this workout enough to do it again?

That is why I created the At-Home Workout Journal.

An At Home Workout Journal Built for Pressing Play

The whole journal is designed around follow-along workouts. It does not matter whether you train with me, another YouTube trainer or a mix of both.

You record the workout you completed, how long it was, the style and format, and the light, medium and heavy weights you used.

Then instead of logging every exercise, there is a section called Movements Worth Remembering. This is where the useful stuff goes.

  • Lateral raise, 5kg, try 6kg next time.
  • Curtsy lunge, knee did not love this one, swap it next time.
  • Goblet squat, 12kg, definitely ready to go heavier.
  • Reverse lunge, used the chair modification and it felt great.

Those are the little notes that become incredibly useful when you press play on that workout again.

Rather than starting from scratch, you already know what worked for you last time.

Keep Track of How the Workout Actually Felt

There is also space to record your effort, how much of the workout you completed and whether it felt:

  • Just right
  • A good challenge
  • Too much for today

Because that matters too. Sometimes the exact same workout feels brilliant one week and completely different another.

That does not mean the workout was bad or that you failed. It gives you information about your training, your energy and what your body needs.

You can also give every workout a star rating and answer one very useful question. Would I do this one again?

Over time, you start building your own little library of workouts you know you enjoy.

And Yes, You Can Still Track Consistency

At the front of the at home workout journal there is a 12-week consistency grid with 84 squares. Every time you finish a workout, colour one in. That is it.

A 15-minute workout counts. A 45-minute workout counts. A modified workout counts.

Training with me counts. Training with somebody else counts.

The goal is not to create a perfect grid. It is simply a visual reminder of all the times you showed up.

Who Is This At Home Workout Journal For?

I made this at home workout journal specifically for women who train at home using follow-along workout videos. If YouTube is basically your gym, this is for you.

It works with strength workouts, HIIT, MetCon, low-impact sessions, circuits, upper and lower body workouts, short sessions, long sessions and everything in between.

And no, you absolutely do not have to train with me to use it.

If you want to see how it sits alongside the rest of the range, I have rounded them all up in my guide to fitness journals for women over 40.

Who Is It NOT For?

If you follow a traditional written strength program where you need to record exact sets, reps and progressive loading for individual exercises, I would choose one of my strength training journals instead.

This at home workout journal has a very specific job. To make follow-along workouts easier to track.

The Practical Bits

The At-Home Workout Journal is:

  • 108 pages
  • 6 x 9 inches
  • Printed on white paper with plenty of room to write
  • Designed to cover 12 weeks of training
  • Includes a worked example so you know exactly how to use the session pages from day one
