Christmas is a time to relax, enjoy delicious food, and spend time with friends and family. But for many of us, it’s important that we stay fit during the holidays and heading into the New Year. Luckily, we can have the best of both worlds by enjoying all the Christmas fun while taking care of our fitness, with these 4 easy tips to stay fit during the holidays.
Follow these tips and you’ll have much less to stress about these holidays when it comes to maintaining your fitness!
#1. Do some short intense workouts
Ok, I’m not suggesting you work out on Christmas day! But during the holiday break, I have some intense 15-minute workouts on my Youtube Channel that you can slot into your schedule. Your muscles will thank you for it, and you won’t lose your hard-earned fitness gains! For maximum impact, combine these with my other tips below. Below are 3 of my favourite 15-minute workouts that will really get your heart rate up and keep those muscles strong!
💪15 MINUTE HOME AB WORKOUT (No equipment needed!)
Build a strong and sexy core with this 15-minute follow along ab workout that will tone your stomach and create a strong foundation from the inside out. There are 2 circuits that make up this ‘at home abs workout’ for women. Complete 3 rounds of 30 seconds work, 10 seconds rest at each exercise. You’ll get 30 seconds rest between circuits. 👇
💪15 MINUTE UPPER BODY WORKOUT WITH WEIGHTS
Build upper body strength and target your shoulders, triceps & biceps, with this dumbbell workout you can do at home. We’ll run through 10 super-effective exercises together, you’ll need a variety of dumbbells and your mat! 👇
💪15 MINUTE LOWER BODY HIIT WORKOUT WITH WEIGHTS
Try this killer 15 minute lower body workout with weights to shape strong, lean legs. We’ll be doing 9 exercises with 3 sets on each exercise. You’ll need a moderately heavy set of dumbbells, depending on your strength and fitness level. 👇
#2 Workout Early
If you can, get your workouts done early in the day. That way they’re done and dusted so you don’t have to think about them! I find that working out early provides a huge boost to my energy levels, not only in terms of the mood boost (thank you, endorphins), but also just by knowing that I’ve already done what I need to do! An early morning workout means I can enjoy my day without keeping an exercise ‘to-do’ list in the back of my mind.
#3. Think about Moving not Exercising
You can burn calories simply by enjoying yourself with some backyard cricket, going for an evening stroll, or spending some time in the pool (if you have one). Think of it in terms of movement, rather than exercise. Don’t underestimate the impact of simply getting off the lounge and moving, it really does benefit your fitness levels!
#4. Pre-plan your food and drinks
Ditch the post-Christmas guilt by making sure you have at least a few healthy Christmas food alternatives on hand during the holidays! I’m a fan of the 80/20 rule when it comes to food, and I don’t like to overthink it. Check out some of my favourite Christmas food and drink alternatives that are not only good for you, but taste great, too.
Let’s head into the New Year feeling fit, strong and energetic!
